Experimental Lettering | Fall 2009

Co-taught with Ben Kiel.

Experimental Lettering encourages students to explore various letter-making processes, while emphasizing the importance of lettering and proprietary typography in contemporary graphic design.

In-depth slide show presentations and drawing demonstrations reinforce fundamental lettering principles introduced during the course. Homework assignments, in-class critiques and hands-on exercises help to further strengthen students’ understanding and execution of key concepts.

In addition to providing background on the historical development of letterforms, class projects assist students in cultivating practical skills in regards to identifying, creating and implementing lettering in a wide range of design applications.
