When the missus started Scissors and Spice, a craft and cooking blog, I was the obvious candidate to design the logo. Given the name and theme of the site, I looked to flour sack designs and stenciled tea chests for inspiration.

Nineteenth century grain sacks, food tins and wooden shipping crates all routinely utilized stenciled lettering. My original design included a decorative border, but the client ultimately elected to go without it.

Although the logo draws on historical models, an unusual composition and somewhat unexpected lettering styles give it a more contemporary look and feel.
